Construction and progress of new HEAL Africa hospitalHEAL Africa began construction of a modern three-story building in November 2010, with the goal of it being finished in February 2012. This building will be the first of its kind in Goma, built and wired for modern technology as well as the comfort of the patients, so that staff will be able to follow patients more easily. The manager of the process for HEAL Africa is Mr. John Bizimana, and the general contractor-builder is Mr. Paul Makumbi, who has previously built the Jubilee Center, the Outpatients’ building and the Pavilion Cinquantenaire on the HEAL Africa campus—as well as the General Hospital in Goma, and university buildings for the University of the Great Lakes. The construction is moving apace, and are on schedule and on budget. This is a complicated process, with some of the material to build coming from Kenya, Australia, and the US. Engineers from Australia and the US are working by remote with the team in Congo. The cement blocks used in construction are being made on the HEAL Africa campus. The re-bar is imported. This is truly an international effort to support the work of HEAL Africa. A heartfelt “Thank you” to all the donors who make it possible! |
