HEAL Africa’s work with survivors of rape and communities in Congo will be showcased on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on December 1, 2009. A second interview with authors of Half The Sky, Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, will include images from HEAL Africa in Goma. On December 25th the show from October 1st will be re-broadcast, which includes segments of Ben Affleck and Sec. of State Hillary Clinton at HEAL Africa.

During this coming month our site will be hosted by Microsoft. We will update you in the New Year! Thank you for your support.

Behind the scenes: When HEAL Africa received an email from “Oprah” producers about working together to help victims of rape being healed in Goma, DR Congo, our concern was that our website didn’t crash. Microsoft community volunteers have ensured that it will be fine when the ”Oprah” Show airs on 1 October. Oprah features Nick Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn’s book, Half The Sky, which talks about HEAL Africa’s work. The “Oprah” show will announce a new registry, ForAllWomen, with web links to support Congolese women’s health, medical, treatment, education, vocational training and counseling.

This exciting event coincided during a month when Dr. Jo and Lyn Lusi, the co-founders of HEAL Africa, are in the US to talk about their work in Goma. Thank you for helping get the message out! A very special thank you to all the Microsoft community service volunteers that have helped HEAL Africa with our website for the past three years!
